In 2021, nestled amongst the hills of a rural Welsh farming community, The Woollen Cwtch Company was launched from a small home workshop. It's purpose, to help British farmers unlock the value in their wool.

Through time spent on local farms working as lambing hand and rolling fleeces during shearing, Eleanor Hunt, had become increasingly aware of the level of skill, knowledge and physical
labour that goes into the production of wool.

Shocked by the amount farmers were receiving for such a valuable natural resource, she began to research potential opportunities for farmers to diversify and increase the returns they were receiving for their wool.
It became clear that what was most needed were long term, stable opportunities for the use of their wool.
With a background in upholstery, furniture weaving and felt making Eleanor looked towards her own skills in helping to solve some of the challenges farmers face in unlocking the value that is in their wool.

In the summer of 2021 The Woollen Cwtch Company was launched. Our first coffins were designed exclusively for babies and hand felted by Eleanor in her home studio.

Over time Eleanor worked to develop and refine the design of our signature woven wool and willow coffins. She focused on creating coffins that are designed to feel like warm, loving hugs. Beautiful coffins that resonate and connect with the people they are made for. Craft makers, knitters, crotcheters, farmers, nature lovers, artists and for those who just really love wool or to be snug and warm.
Our award winning, woven wool rope and willow designs became our signature style and are widely recognised today across both the funeral and farming industries.
In 2024 our woven wool and willow coffins achieved accreditation for use in cremation and burial throughout the UK.

Today the Woollen Cwtch Company is a multi award winning funeral supplies company that contributes directly to supporting British farmers and their communities, providing sponsorship and fund raising towards shearing sports and helping to create increased returns for their wool.
We create a wide range of warm and comforting wool funerary items including coffins, shrouds, shroud carriers, urns, coffin covers and wool pillows that start from as little as £10 helping to make wool an accessible choice for as many people as we can.

The response to our woven wool and willow designs has been so positive that we now also offer baskets and other items created in our own distinctive style. As with all our products, a share in profits from the sale of each item is dedicated to The Farmers' Wool Fund supporting increased returns for UK farmers. These can be found in our online shop (link below).
